Update

Sooo its been a while huh
lots has been goin on, well sort of
Been workin at Halloween City, its pretty fun, I get to talk to people a lot and watch people embarrass themselves trying on costumes and stuff =D
Also have this sweet hat that I'm thinkin is gonna stay with me as i move on.

 

I've been walkin in teh woods a lot too with mah new friends Rob, Andrea and Natalie (oh and the dog whose name i cant remember right now haha)

been reading a lot too
My current fav is still the Malazan book of the Fallen but these are good too ;)

and of course A Walk in the Woods to keep me motivated :D

Oh I've been playin with the cats a lot too

Rivering

So yesterday we went out for a trip down the Hocking river with my new friends Reid and Ben and Rob my roommate (he's in the front of the canoe) the weather was awesome and we made it in right as the sun went down with only one tipping of a canoe (me and Ben kinda flipped ours)

Soo i'm still chillin in Athens Ohio... no job luck as of yet so I'm trying to decide if I should stay here for another week or 2 and see if I can't get hired or just move on... really really need to decide that.

Partial Hinders family came up to visit :D it was nice to see familiar faces!

Found a new longish series of books called The Malazan Book of the Fallen still on the first book Gardens of the Moon... seems pretty cool and the way they use magic is very intriguing

Well I'm here in Athens Ohio.. goin to try and find a job cuz I have some debts that I really need to pay off. Stayin at the Sunset Motel... Really wish I had a better camera cuz there is this sweet picture that I want to take from the other side but it's just too dark with out a longer exposure :( ah well such is life.


Spent the day yesterday walking around to a few thrift stores trying to find a few clothes and a bike. Ended up getting the bike with the blue shirt hanging over it from the Motel owners and the green bike frame that you see in the first picture. I was thinking that I could combine the two and create one bike that worked at least semi-well and I thought I had succeeded. It was not to be however...



This morning I rode it on its maiden voyage and it was working great! So excite. Sadly though in it's sophomoric effort the handlebars decided that they didn't want to be attached to the wheels any more and I got what you see below.. So sad.


So I hoofed it into town and got the cheapest bike Walmart could provide.


I'm lying here in bed contemplating where else to start looking for work, I'm thinkin Dominos or something along those lines, with school starting up soon food service is bound to be wanting to hire more people I just gotta wait till the seniors start rollin back in.


Oh yeah also picked up a sweet new scifi/fantasy book (well I'm hoping it will be sweet the last one I randomly got was utter garbage) I have discovered some of my favorite books and series through random pickups at used book stores so i have hope :D

Parkersburg

Well I've made it all the way across West Virginia now. Sitting in the public library in Parkersburg talkin on Gchat and trying to decide how to continue.

People

Ok so I need to mention Chris and Paula

They are amazing people, I met them on the road up to Dolly Sods (the biggest elevation change I've done so far I wish i knew what it was)... so any way Chris rolled down his window and offered me a ride and I had been fine to keep walking but as soon as he offered my will collapsed and I just said yes. So they took me up to Red Creek Campground which is where I was going to rejoin the American Discovery Trail; by the time we got there though Chris had offered to let me stay with them and then he could take me all the way to Parkersburg! So I hiked around 11 miles through the Dolly Sods trails (amazing area btw I wish I could have spent like 2 or 3 days there) I finished the trails right when they pulled up at the parking lot after finishing their trail the timing couldn't have been better!

I have to say they really inspired me to try harder with the whole walking thing just by telling me about their epic 30something day trip that they took this summer all over the US.

So then Chris took me to Parkersburg and here I am.

The computer is telling me I'm out of time though so I gotta go, I'll update again in Ohio!!

Met the nicest guy today named Dave, gave me a ride into Romney, WV and got me right next to 50, gave me a sandwich and $25 he is the man, thanks Dave!
More nice people..
The Fredericks gave me some amazing peach cobbler and poundcake last night while I was staying in Antioch WV next to the United Methodist Church (best nights sleep in the tent yet thanks church) and then this morning they hooked me up with more poundcake, a peach, 2 energy bars, a mini strongboli (stromboli) and a new testament woot thanks guys
The Boddys gave me water!! A banana an apple a cucumber and dark chocolate :D they also gave me directions and I got to weigh my pack which ended up being still over 60lbs with full water bottles.. Even after dumping so much stuff on Sarah and the Parents! That was a shock I didn't even know what to say... that means that I was carrying around 70ish pounds before mom n dad took stuff home, no wonder my back was hurting so much haha. I weighed myself too (141ish lbs) and I haven't lost weight either... Weird but I guess the huge pack is building muscles like crazy.
I also got a ride into Petersburg (so glad I'm in my city lawl) from some people who's names I either never got or totally forgot to write down oh well thanks nameless ones.

Just realized I never took pictures of any if these guys.. So sad :(

Anywai just sittin waiting for the laundry to finish sippin a mountain dew at the Park Motel.

Cheating

Well sort of cheated and took a ride to Cumberland with the fam.. last hours with em yarr... Actually the took me back to Oldtown and I went over into West Virginia lastnight.

First Rain

The first rain was pretty crucial, it got super windy and was dropping branches all around us while we were walking. We made it to the Leopards Mill campsite and set the tent up while the rain was starting. I spent the whole time it was raining thinking that I had done something wrong with the tent but the only thing I think I did wrong was position the tarp so rain could get under the tent which kinda sucked but it's nice and sunny now so I've got the tent flipped over and am drying it out.



Sooo Sarah left Monday night *sadface* all alone now and loving it?? We shall see how the next week goes lol. Pics kinda dark but it's the last shot of Sarah.


Walked around 14 miles today (Tuesday) feet are feeling the extra weight now that I can't dump stuff on Sarah :D beard is finally startin to come in too yay.




I am really thinking that I would love to spend the winter in Aspen, kinda wanted to do that since I had the idea for the trip but never really thought I would go through with it. From what Billingsly has told me it should be possible but like who knows what the job/housing market will be like out there by the time I finally get there.

Also sat down and actually mapped out my rout through West Virginia and Ohio. Interestingly there are more tow s closer together in WestVA then there are in Ohio which for some reason I didn't expect. I'm thinking that since I'm going to be dealing with a lot more elevation changes (compared to the towpath) that I might get a little cart or something from a bike shot to just tow behind mr with my gear to make it easier on my back.. Not sure if I'm gonna do that cuz I have no idea how much those little trailers cost.

Wednesday, walking with Anthony so nice to have somebody to walk with again!



And finally I think I need to blog more often cuz this post is just getting way to long sorry guys!

Desert Rose

Chillin at the most awesome little cafe in Williamsport called Desert Rose, this is the type of place I wanna run if I ever get the chance!






In other news we got the puppy to the Humane Society woot all safe n stuff with an ex-paratrooper.

We're still moving kinda slow but today has been our fastest day, made it 10 miles with a late start and we're gonna try and make it about 4 more miles before dark

Ok so first day was really rough... made it around 11 miles but my pack is way heavier then I ever practiced with so my back needs to adjust or something
Sarah is doin awesome she even carried my pack for a mile or so lol. She says "hi"
